First off: the idea of Samurai honor requiring open battle is a misnomer. Many ideas about samurai honor were developed AFTER this perid--during the years of peace, when the honor code wasn't being taxed by actual business of warfare much like the much romanticized western knights. Thus, when faced with superior numbers, samurai had no qualms about holing up in a castle and waiting for help. There were some innovative siege strategies as well--for example, when Hashiba Hideyoshi future Toyotomi Hideyoshi besieged a major castle of the Mori Clan, he constructed a dam down river to the castle, and turned the area around the castle into a gradually rising lake.
Oda Nobunaga at times simply burned down entire cities in roder to burn out castle defenses, as he did to the Ise Ikko Ikki temple complex. It should be remembered that castles as such were a relatively new invention Battle Of Justice - Sturmwehr - Bataillone Des Sieges (CD japan at this time--before then, castles consisted of little more than a moat, a fence, and a large dirt rampart with a fortified house in the middle.
Thus, witht he development of better and better defensive castles, siege warfare was in its infancy as well. By the late stages in this period, the importation of cannons O-zutsu greatly simplified sieges--Japan had a lack of quarries, thus stone for cosntructing large castles were simply not availabe, thus substantial parts of castles were built of wood. You are right R sieges did kind of happen and hence the style of castles changed with the introduction of gunpowdered weapons.
However, as CA have realised it seems, the whole castle defense system was totally different to the Europeans. I am glad to see that they have kept this in mind. Thanks Kinjo for posting Jamie's Battle Of Justice - Sturmwehr - Bataillone Des Sieges (CD. As well as with the introduction of firearms, we see the positioning and design of Japanese castles changing due to economic forces.
Castles in which used to be positioned high up on mountain tops Battle Of Justice - Sturmwehr - Bataillone Des Sieges (CD purely for defence of key mountain passes, were moved to flat lands and cities as castles became centres of administration. You are right Sun Tzu, it is good that CA is looking closely at Japanese castle designs and figuring them hopefully into the game play. What would be cool is if attacking armies could also block streams, or divert rivers, burn forests, etc as part of siege tactics.
There are only two things I'm worried about; 1. The forts will be too big with too many bottle necks to be easily defended. People will simply be able to plug bottle necks with infantry and then shoot over them with archers, this could be very effective with the rock paper scissors mechanic they are introducing.
I think it would be cool if you could conquer the different layers of a castle and then leave the battle. When you then decide to attack again, you will start in for exampel outside wall number 2 and not 1, Battle Of Justice - Sturmwehr - Bataillone Des Sieges (CD. That way we can use Album) if they are in the game without running out of ammunition and you can easily destroy many parts of the walls.
Would get more historical as they often had a lot of time to destroy the walls. Or that idea should maybe have been for a Medieval III or something? Previously known as DenmarkRules. January edited January It makes defending easier on the AI. There was a mod made almost immediately after release that reduced the defense tower ranges.
Hex good response man. Definitely brings back of memories of destroying towers in a OP fashion. Also Dredd do you have a link to that mod? I can see how people don't like them, but I personally have never been that excited by TW sieges and don't mind the current structure.
I was also happy to be done with the unwalled small settlement battles which looked very cool, but didn't play so well as the AI couldn't really deal with it, much like bridge battles.
I don't think it will help with Chaos as they don't have a "spy" ie. I was using Vampires with two Banshees and broke 6 holes in the wall before attacking with two flier-heavy armies. There might as well not have been any walls. The sieges I dislike are the underground Karaks, which are just like above ground cities but It looks absolutely nonsensical to build subterranean cities in the same style as above ground cities.
The ironic thing is that the gates in the background just outside the battle map when you attack an unwalled Orc or Dwarf city actually look quite good. Last edited by Mojo Amok ; 12 Jul, am. In many ways its rather obvious that they are basically dumbing down the sieges so the AI can't fail the the ways that it did before, but aside from a few exploits here and there the more recent siege AI has actually been rasonably competant.
So I would have felt it was a better soltion to make some minor improvments in the AI there and there the campaign AI is almost Album) ported from Attila so why stop there while perhaps making a few simplificatios of the settlement design here and there.
The main goal is to gain Siege Points 3 obtained by occupying the various enemy Bases scattered around. A Guild gains Siege Points in two ways: by conquering enemy Bases and by simply staying in the bases: a counter determines the amount of Siege Points, value that's proportionate to the number of Bases that belongs to the Guild.
Keep in mind that a base can contribute to the siege points calculation by time only if that base isn't isolated 4 from the rest. The Guild which reaches 20, points before the time limit expires wins the Siege Battle. If no Guild is able to get to 20, point in time, Guild ranking is determined by the amount of Siege Points gain by each Guild before time ends. Each Siege Battle consists of two battling phases and occurs two times a week. Each round starts with a registration period, during which Guild Masters and Vice Masters can register their guild and select which guild members will participate in the upcoming round.
