I go for the pre break-up stuff, in a major way. I would never "nay say" anyone who loves their later work though. It just doesn't hit me like the earliest stuff. Those are among my favorite records of all time though. I was disappointed by "Snakedrill" The edges all sanded off, loss of the grand dynamic range, and all downhill from there. Alas, they are humans. How many masterpieces can be expected? The bar they set was so very high. Those albums changed many lives - mine included.

Most have been informed, but this album is based on ideas and songs, which date back to and before. So this is a factor, one which hopefully Album) somehow inspire brand new songs which like "Change Becomes Us" capture the essence of their early work. This album goes with "" etc. The double LP version of this actually fits, as well. One can only imagine just how mind blowing this would have been, with Album) Gilbert who is conspicuously absent.

Given that, Matthew Smith does a great job - and pulls off some vital guitar work, etc. Whether the "change" that "becomes" them will be a return to this variety of Wire - remains to be seen. I think the album is brilliant. I listen to it - it takes me over. These are some of the best songs Wire have produced. Understanding that many of these songs, if not all, have been languishing about since and have been brought up to the surface for a fresh take, really stokes me.

Supposedly, these are songs that were left over from the "" period, Indeed, some pieces are renamed and obviously re-recorded which appear on the live "Document and Eyewitness" LP from or was it ??

Now, Wire never cease to amaze me - even when they're pile-driving through "Drill. That happens so rarely, anymore. Thanks for a great recording of who you are and where you are right now, especially with Matt Simms the "band member," not the "filler," who is more than "up-to-task" more than up-to-'tsk' than Bruce, to be sure.

Not to diss Bruce. He was brilliant. But, he WAS in Wire. He is not IN Wire, any longer. And you thought my previous review sounded "histrionic" Best wishes to the best band!! Those who have followed Wire over the years, you know they have metamorphosed. They have changed. Their musical canvas is like viewing abstract expressionism, pop art, dada, and children's finger painting all through cracked sunglasses.

The newest opus is a throw back to the style of Pink Flag some of the songs have those simple robotic rhythms reminiscent of Pink Flag: e. Magic Bullet, Doubles and Trebles, Love Bends - Start to move comes to mind from Pink Flag However, Change becomes us brings the experience of all those many years of blown car stereo woofers, feed back, a cacophony of sounds fuzzing and buzzing your aural experience making the buzz sound a permanent brain pattern.

You'll love this CD. The music engulfs you with ambient sirens, syncopated industrial strength saber saws, melodic synthesize cords drifting, amplified squeaking doors, earthquake rumbling base, buzsaw guitars, lyrics that make no sense yet you sing and gyrate to the addicting rhythms. The emotional tension in these songs is turned up so high you're no longer thinking rationally - flight or fight has kicked in.

You become lost in the free fall abyss of Wire's world of sounds. A loud radio booming static fuzz - white noise barely decipherable - where is it coming from? Contemplating, time wasted, answer is the question, someone's car stereo belting out hip-hop rhythms demanding attention - nirvana achieved.

Distorted vibrations, ecstasy, do not go into that gentle night. Having been a Wire fan from the very beginning, and having seen them in concert in London numerous times over the span of their first three albums, I have to say, this is another winner. If you love the first three releases, you should not be disappointed by this CD. Well recorded and very much in form, it's wonderful hear this music again after following the many many many offshoots and ideas and meanderings of this tribe of men.

Please put out a couple more. Wire continues to make my wishes come true, and occasionally learn that you shouldn't always get what you wish for. Far from an exercise in nostalgia, this is a a reinvention of the band's history for which the only equivalent might be Laibach's recent revisiting of their earliest Rekapitulacja material. Wilson Neate's Read and Burn is a highly complementary reading choice but most of all it's great to revel in the wonderful transformations of tracks like 'Ally in Exile' into 'Doubles and Trebles' and so many more amazing reconfigurations.

See all reviews from the United Kingdom. Top international reviews. Translate all reviews to English. As good as the first five tracks are, this cd notches up a gear or two on Time Lock Fog to turn it into one of Wire's very best.

Lyrics for Wire's music are always worth downloading. Never trite, sometimes a little difficult, here they strike a perfect balance between challenging the listener and engaging.

For those wondering about the blocks of letters in 'Second Wheel', surely the reference is to the old decoding machines at places like Bletchley Park. Which puts it ahead of their most recent release, Wirein which the poetry seems too intent on obscuring rather than communicating.

Plus, on Change Becomes Us, three voices are used as opposed to the sole focus on Newman in Always masters of recording techniques, this issue is no exception, a recording that complements good equipment. I know many fans lost interest in the group afterbut to me they've hardly hiccuped once in the past 40 or so years, a group that is still producing leading-edge material, still relevant, still unpredictable. Thank you for your feedback. Sorry, we failed to record your vote.

Please try again. Translate review to English. Alors Changes becomes us? Un album de trop? Oui et non dirais-je. Depuis, les musiciens continuent leur petit bonhomme de chemin exigeant.

Dans cet album, on retrouve l'esprit de la fion des 70s, pas de concession, pas de fioritures. Bonne nouvelle, Wire bouge encore. One person found this helpful. Load more international reviews. Please put out a couple more. It's like these guys never missed a step from their so-called "Hey-day," this record is just plain brilliant. For fans of dark music that maintains a healthy sense of humor.

I had forgotten how "Floyd-ey" Wire can be! I cannot recommend it more highly. I've been a fan since the vinyl days of Pink Flag in fact bought 2 after wearing out the first one and it's amazing that these guys continue to put out quality music that always sounds fresh.

Wire, Change Becomes Us - Change Becomes Us Wire has never been keen to dwell on the past: During one mid-period tour, they famously took a tribute band on tour to sate audiences' desire for the early stuff. So it's surprising at first that their 10th album — the fourth of their third phase — draws on material written three decades earlier/5.
