It was reported that the album had a budget of twenty five million dollars set aside for promotion. There was, however, a special 30th Anniversary celebration at Madison Square Garden in early September to mark Jackson's 30th year as a solo artist. Jackson performed "You Rock My World" and marked his first appearance onstage alongside his brothers since the Jacksons ' Victory Tour in The album's promotion was met with trouble due to internal conflicts with Sony Music Entertainment and Jackson due to his part of ownership with the company and the contract to this deal with Sony that was originally signed back in The issue stemmed back during the production of Invincible when Jackson learned that the rights to the masters of his past releases, which were to revert to him in the early s, wouldn't actually revert to him until much later in the decade.

When Jackson went to the lawyer who worked with him in making the deal back inhe learned that the same lawyer was also working for Sony, revealing a conflict of interest he was never aware of. Not wanting to sign away his ownership in Sony Music Entertainment, Jackson elected to leave the company shortly after the album's release.

In Julyfollowing Sony's decision to abruptly end promotion for the album, Jackson made allegations that Mottola was a "devil" and a "racist" who did not support his African-American artists but used them for personal gain.

Invincible received mixed reviews from professional critics. At Metacriticwhich assigns a rating out of to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received a mixed score of 51 based on 19 reviews. James Hunter of Rolling Stone critiqued that the album's later ballads made the record too long. Reviewing for The Village VoiceRobert Christgau said that Jackson's skills as a musician are often forgotten, but noted that the album seemed too long compared to other Jackson albums.

While Christgau felt some material was "offensive", he described the album's first three tracks as being the "Rodney Jerkins of the year" adding that he did not "believe the [album's] hype matters". In a negative review for The New York TimesJon Pareles suggested that the album is somewhat impersonal and humorless, as Jackson rehashes ideas from his past songs and is "so busy trying to dazzle listeners that he forgets to have any fun.

Invincible received one Grammy Award nomination at the ceremony. Album) retrospective reviews, Invincible has gained more positive reviews and has been cited as an early development of dubstep. Invincible has also aged quite well.

Jackson wisely did not conform to pop music standards at the time of production, leaving Invincible sounding just as fresh and distinctive as it did on the day it was released.

AllMusic editor Stephen Thomas Erlewine commented that it has a "spark" and "sound better than anything Jackson has done since Dangerous.

A leaner structure to the album and more sympathetic production would have resulted in a classic. Credits adapted from Invincible album liner notes. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Didn't Claudine Clark end up teaching music? Claudine lived in Atlanta, GA, but I have no idea where she is. Sadly, her label couldn't follow-up the hit and she could've had a promising career. She actually wrote "Party Lights", which was intended as the "B" side of "Disappointed". Her lp had too many songs with the "Party" title, but her follow-up singles sounded nothing like Still Around - Eugene & The 1914 - Troubles (CD hit.

I think I remember hearing that Ruby Nash said she had lost her singing voice. I am certain over the years she has been encouraged to work the circuit. They did have quite a few big hits. I imagine Claudine did pretty well with the royalties-that song has had a long life.

Funny, I was just wondering what happened to Color Me Badd! Does any know or care what happened to them? I can't remember any of their names. The lead singer fell on hard times for a bit.

He got married, fathered some children, and gained a lot of weight. The last time I saw him he was on a VH1 reality series that put together members of various disbanded groups, and combined them for another shot at fame. Much of what has been written about the group is erroneous. Marv Goldberg cleared up a lot of things when Still Around - Eugene & The 1914 - Troubles (CD interviewed her several months before I did thank God. She's still living in Akron and is doing fine.

All but one of the Romantics is deceased, and the one still living has cancer. She had no interest in Album) back out here on the nostalgia circuit without her original singing partners. Also, I'm happy to say that contrary to published reports, she gets royalties twice a year from "Our Day Will Come" and other songs.

Marc Taylor. Dear Marc, that is wonderful to hear! They were an excellent group! I think she did mention PBS having to twist her arm to do one of their shows I'll have to dig up the tape of the interview to verifybut that was it.

Someone in Vegas did an interview with Bettye Swaan back in If you enter her name into Wikipedia, there is a link to it. Great thread Luke! What ever happened to Rockie Robbins? Booker Vesta Williams. Sheila E still tours and toured with Prince recently. Apollonia still lives in California. Vanity has a ministry. Christopher Williams was touring in some of those urban or gospel plays that tour the black theater circuit. He toured with Janet for one tour. Chuck Cissel was the head of some jazz music association in the west somewhere.

Vesta Williams still tours. Shelly, the 'other girl' is in entertainment management arena and does some work with Earth, Wind and Fire, as she's married to one of the members.

Thank you for that follow up information. Edna Wright of Honeycone is still out there kicking it Thank you as well. I could not remember Shellie Clark's name when I posted. That was my girl. I still have a couple of her albums. Lisa Lisa still tours, she's really big on the gay pride festival circuit, along with Chaka and Jennifer Holiday and Martha Wash. Although I think most of the artists are still around, I absolutely LOVED the quality of the music that the Ichiban label put out in the 80s and 90s, and I hated it when it folded.

Trudy Lynn's stuff for them was fantastic, Francine Reed and Sandra Hall were great blueswomen, and even Millie Jackson put out a couple of decent albums for them.

I've noticed that many of the "whatever happened to" artists listed above are on Facebook. Goldean was just interviewed for an up coming reality show about artists who never really made it big.
